FIA LAUNCHES WRC SUSTAINABLE ENERGY TENDER

As the FIA World Rally Championship prepares to enter the hybrid era from 2022, the FIA, in association with WRC Promoter, are inviting prospective suppliers to bid for three specific packages in relation to the supply of energy for the championship from 2022 to 2024.

Agreeing on the key requirements of the initiative, the FIA and WRC Promoter intend to use this opportunity to work with prospective applicants to showcase the wide range of options that are available in the rapidly evolving field of sustainable and alternative fuels.

This comes on the back of the successful FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme, through which the FIA has already announced significant changes to the technical regulations from 2022, including the introduction of hybrid technology. One of the key objectives is to improve the technical relevance between the technologies used in the WRC and the technologies used to improve the sustainability of everyday cars.

The three lots pertaining to the tender are as follows:

  1. Sustainable fuel, with the supplier producing and delivering a fuel or a series of fuels that can be used by competitors across the different classes in the FIA World Rally Championship.
  2. Branding of the plug-in hybrid charging stations in the service parks.
  3. Sustainable energy generation and supply in the service park to cover the needs of the plug-in charging elements of the World Rally Cars and the general power requirements of the service park.

Interested parties can apply for one or more of the packages. Potential suppliers who are interested in applying for all three lots will have the opportunity to be named as the ‘Official Energy Partner’ of the WRC. They will also gain access to the WRC eco-system to showcase the multi-level solutions being developed in the field of sustainable energy, to reduce global emissions.
