1959 MORGAN 4/4 Series II. Raced in Group 1, H Production. The engine was built by Bob Wagner Motor Sports, Decatur, GA with a 5 main block, 1364cc, billet crank, titanium rods, Carrillo pistons, dry sump, Kent 244 cam and roller rockers. The block LB2733LBA, is a short deck 5 main bearing block as used in 1300 Cortina's. The LBA block, produced by Ford, is a special thick-walled unit, cast for the purpose of small displacement Cosworth twin cam type engines. Originally these were sold by Holbay and probably some others in the UK. I had the engine built for reliability with only 8.9 x 1 compression and run a red line of 7,000 rpm, maximum power comes in at about 6500 rpm with the current cam. Increasing the power is possible by increasing the compression and changing the cam as the components are all high end capable of turning 9,500+ rpm with tweaking. Currently the car has been finishing mid pact with no reliability problems.
The transmission is a Quaife Rocket Box with dog engagement and ratios of; 1st 2.040, 2nd 1.540, 3rd 1.210, 4th 1.00. An aluminum bell housing, Tilton flywheel, and Tilton clutch, Tilton 800 series hydraulic release bearing reliably transmit power. An AH Sprite (for weight saving) differential 4:55, limited-slip, floating axles, double bearing hubs, Alfin style brake drums, and Mulberry Panard Rod allow the rear to handle much more power than the engine currently develops. A 4.22 rear with a never run limited slip differential is included. A Morgan double thickness front chassis, Morgan heavy duty spindles, and disk brakes have been added upfront.
The body tub is Morgan with fiberglass fenders, by Don Simpkins, front and rear for weight savings. Two Kirkey aluminum seats are mounted in the Morgan for comfort and SVRA requirements. Starting power is provided by an Optima PC9 battery with a light weight Dave Bean alternator and a gear drive starter. The ignition is a 123 Ignition BT Tune (Blue Tooth) for easy adjustment via your cell phone with an adjustable rev limiter. Carburation is a Weber down draft, 32/36 DGV with a supply of jets for changing conditions. An extra carburetor jetted the same is included. A custom, 8-gallon, Fuel Safe, fuel cell, is good through the end of this year when the internal bladder will need to be replaced. A Safety System fire extinguisher system with an extra bottle is good through June 2021. The Simpson 5-point safety harness is good through 30 June 2021. An OBP Ltd pedal box with Tilton master cylinders is installed with a Tilton adjustable brake balance bar. The Morgan, Smiths Tach was modified by Nisonger for electronic ignition. An AMI fuel gauge provides accurate fuel tank readings and a Speedhut speedo gives GPS quality speed readings. A Spal electric fan, hard mounted in front of the aluminum radiator, keeps the Morgan running cool on the grid. All water hoses are silicone. An extra set of 15-inch EPI mag wheels are included. SVRA & VDCA Log Books are included. The Morgan includes a transponder that is accepted by all the major racing series. The Morgan does come with a Florida title and is licensed for the street. The tracks have opened, now is the time to go racing!
